Building:
Part of the Marks & Spencer building (1952)

This purpose-built M&S building was erected on the site of Nos. 12-16 in 1952, replacing previous buildings. It was remodelled in 1966 and extended in 1971 to absorb Nos. 17-19 . Faced in Portland stone, It employs a versatile modular design that was created for M&S in 1934 by architect Robert Lutyens (1901-1970).

Marks & Spencer is a department store retailer founded in Leeds in 1884 as a 'penny bazaar' variety store by Michael Marks & Thomas Spencer .

 

Building:
Former Clarence Hotel pub building

This building appears almost unchanged since photographs from the 1870s, when it was a pub called the Clarence Hotel.

Monsoon (clothing retailer - ladies' wear)

Monsoon is a retail clothing chain owned by Monsoon Accessorize Ltd. It was founded in London in 1973 by market-stall trader Peter Simon.

2010 - Monsoon made a minor branding alteration to its fascia, changing the Monsoon wordmark from silver to pink.
