Nos. 60-62 Broad Street (north side) - 2020

Building & Occupier Details

Building:
Part of the Former Woolworths building (1992)

This building was erected for Woolworths in 1992 to replace its previous premises which had been destroyed by a fire while they were vacant for refurbishment. It is surprisingly sympathetic to its environment, having been clearly designed to mimic the style of its westward neighbour at Nos. 65-66.

Nos. 61-62
Clas Ohlson (home improvements retailer)

Clas Ohlson is a Swedish home improvement retailer founded in 1918. It branched into the UK in 2008, starting in Croydon, but largely withdrew from the market in 2018, closing every UK store except Reading. The latter remained open until 2022, when Clas Ohlson closed it, pulling out of the UK retail market entirely.

Building:
Former Barratts shoe shop building

Based on photo evidence, this building appears to have been erected circa 1964, at which time it was a Barratts shoe shop. Its shop front was remodelled in 2007.
