Nos. 77-80 Broad Street (south side) - 2023

Building & Occupier Details

Building:
Part of Nos. 79-80, Broad Street

An exact date for the construction of this building is hard to pin down, but old images suggest that it has been standing since at least 1880, with a construction date in the mid-1870s seeming probable.

Nos. 79-80
Chopstix (fast food outlet or takeaway)

Chopstix is a chain of noodle bars founded in 2002 by Menashe Sadik and Sam Elia. From its initial site in London's Camden Market, it has grown to be the UK's largest 'Asian-inspired quick-serve restaurant' chain.

2023 - Noodle bar Chopstix refreshed its appearance with a new white shop sign decorated with outline noodle shapes.

Building:
St Mary's House (refaced)

St. Mary's House was built in 1970 on the site of the former Baylis supermarket. In 2015, it was clad in brick and zinc, refreshing and modernising its appearance. And then again in 2023, because the 2015 cladding started to fall off in 2019, just four years after installation.

Nos. 77-78
Cancer Research UK (charity shop)

Cancer Research UK is a charity that funds research into cancer treatment and/or prevention and s the world's largest independent cancer research organisation. Its chain of charity shops sell new and donated second-hand items to raise funds to support the research.

2023 - Cancer Reasearch UK updated its logo, reducing the number of circles making up the 'C'. The charity shop fascia was not updated, however.

Upper Floors
Reed (recruitment agency)

Reed is a recruitment agency, founded in London in 1960 by Sir Alec Reed. It has since become the world’s largest family-run recruitment business.

2023 - The upper storeys of St. Mary's House were reclad with new brick tiles, presumably using a more durable method to affix them. This resulted in a slightly different cladding pattern to that applied in 2015.
