Building:
Part of the Blagrave Estate's 1869 Shopping Parade

Part of a shopping parade built for the Blagrave Estate in 1869 at a cost of almost £4000. It was designed by local architects JT & W Brown. Nos. 86 retains its original upper brick façade but Np. 85's was modified in the 1930s. The parade was locally listed by Reading Borough Council in 2022.

Shoe Zone (shoe shop)

Shoe Zone is a shoe shop chain. Originally named Benson Shoe, it was founded in Leicester in 1917 by four shoe manufacturers.It was purchased by Michael & Christopher Smith - grandsons of one of the founders - in 1980 and renamed Shoe Zone in 1996. It remains headquartered in Leicester.

2016 - Shoe Zone refreshed its brand, adopting a new logo that spelt the company name as a single word, using a diufferent typeface. The Broad Street shop sign was updated to match the new branding. This left most of the shop front a very slightly different shade of blue from the shop sign.

Millets (outdoor clothing & equipment shop)

Millets is an outdoor clothing & equipment retailer founded by Max Millet in Southampton in 1893. Acquired by Foster Brothers in 1982 and Sears in 1985, it was merged with Milletts, a firm founded by Max's brother. After a management buyout and two more acquisitions, it has been owned by JD Sports since 2012.
