Building:
Part of Broad Street Independent Chapel

The shops, arch and tower comprising the frontage were added in 1892 when the chapel (built in 1800), which was set back from the road behind a courtyard, was extended to the edge of the street. The chapel itself closed in 1984 and was reopened as shop space in 1995. It was Grade II listed in 1978.

Accessorize (accessories retailer)

Accessorize is a chain selling bags, jewellery and other accessories. It is owned by Monsoon Accessorize Ltd and was founded in London in 1984 as a spin-off from ladies' fashion retailer Monsoon.

2002 - Accessorize underwent a brand refresh, simplifying the typeface used in its logo. Its Broad Street shop sign was updated in line with the new branding.

 

Building:
Part of the Blagrave Estate's 1869 Shopping Parade

Part of a shopping parade built for the Blagrave Estate in 1869 at a cost of almost £4000. It was designed by local architects JT & W Brown. Nos. 87 & 87A retain their original upper brick façade. The parade was locally listed by Reading Borough Council in 2022.

Birthdays was a British High Street greeting cards retailer founded by Ron Wood in Bury in 1966 as Ron Wood Greeting Cards. Ita dopted the Birthdays name in 1986. In 2004, Birthdays was acquired by Clinton Cards, which entered administration in 2012.
