Building:
Former Timothy Whites building I (1930)

This building was erected for the chemist chain Timothy Whites in 1930, replacing the pawnbroker's shop of John Rose. See also Nos. 47-48, to which premises Timothy Whites later moved.

Virgin Gamestore (computer games retailer)

Virgin Gamestore was a short-lived Virgin Group offering that concentrated on the computer game element of the broader Virgin Megastore product range.

2002 - In mid-2002, the Reading and Colchester V-Shops were both relaunched again, this time as Virgin Gamestores, concentrating on computer games. Once again, the relaunch was not successful and their existence in this format was rather fleeting.

 

Building:
Part of the Sainsbury's building

Purpose-built as a small supermarket in 2002 to replace the dilapidated 1965 building that previously stood at the entrance of the Market Way arcade.

This property was empty and unused.

2002 - A new building was under construction for future occupation by Sainsbury's.
