Former Timothy Whites building I (remodelled)

This building was erected for the chemist chain Timothy Whites in 1930. Its frontage was remodelled and simplified in 2003 for the fashion retailer East.

East (clothing retailer - ladies' wear)

East is a fashion retailer founded in 1994 by three former Monsoon employees. It went into administration in 2015 was purchased in 2018 by Monsoon's founder, Peter Simon.

2003 - Women's fashion retailer East replaced the computer games retailer Virgin Gamestore and remodelled the frontage of Nos. 9-10.

 

Building:
Part of the Sainsbury's building

Purpose-built as a small supermarket in 2002 to replace the dilapidated 1965 building that previously stood at the entrance of the Market Way arcade.

Sainsbury's (grocery)

J Sainsbury plc (trading as Sainsbury's) is a supermarket chain founded in London in 1869 by John James Sainsbury. It is headquartered in London.

2003 - Sainsbury's opened for business in its 'Sainsbury's Central' format, which comprised smaller grocery stores in town centres, competing with Tesco Express.
